Sekonic L-358 Question:I see the PocketWizard channel that I chose flashing in the screen, but the flash will not fire when I press the measuring button. Why?
Answer: A. When the selected PocketWizard channel is showing, you are still in the setting mode and not in the metering mode. To get into the metering mode, depress and hold the "MODE" button, then turn the wheel one click in the clockwise direction. You should now see the lightning bolt and "T" symbol surrounded by a box. You are now in the wireless radio triggering mode and the flash should fire.
Question: I have installed the PocketWizard module, but the "lightning bolt & T symbol" fails to appear. What is wrong? Answer: When the module is installed and the meter is turned on, the radio triggering symbol should automatically appear, nothing further should or can be done. If it does not, there could be a problem with the meter, with the module or in rare cases, both pieces. If you are able to borrow another meter and module, you can isolate where the problem is by switching components. If another meter is unavailable, please send both to the Sekonic service dept. for evaluation.
Question: When using a spot attachemnt, are the readings visible inside the finder? Answer: No, you must look at the face of the meter. Question: Is the hum I hear when my L-358 is illuminated normal? Answer: Yes it is. Question: In ambient mode,/shutter priority, why to the shutter sppeds 1/200 and 1/400 appear after 1/8000? Answer: There are certain cameras that have maximum shutter speeds of 1/200 and 1/400. Unless you are reading in 1/3 stops, these speeds would be an in-between value when setting full or half stops. Rather than omit them, they have been added as "extras", and placed at the end of the shutter speed scale.
Question: In flash mode, the shutter speeds 1/75, 1/80, 1/90, 1/100, 1/200. 1/400 appear after the top speeds of 1/1000. Why are they here and not placed "in order" with the rest of the speeds. Answer: There are certain cameras that have maximum shutter speeds that match these numbers. These speeds usually represent an in-between value when adjusting shutter speeds in full, half or 1/3 increments. Rather than disrupt the symmetry of the shutter speed scale, they were placed after 1/1000 as "extras".
Question: The custom calibration function and the custom compensation function seem to do about the same thing. When and how should each be used. Answer: The custom calibration function has only a +/- 1 stop range, and is more of a permanent change. Use this when your necessary amount of change is small, and you consistanly use the same camera. The custom compensation function has a range of +/- 9.9 stops and can be quickly adjusted "on the fly". Use this when you need to compensate by more than one stop or if you are using your meter with different cameras and/or film emulsions.
